Talcum Powder Lawsuit

If you used talcum powder-based products for feminine hygiene and were later diagnosed with ovarian cancer or mesothelioma, you may qualify for compensation.

Stay Informed

What's behind the talcum powder claims?

Lawsuits allege that talc-based products — most prominently Johnson & Johnson's Baby Powder and Shower to Shower — caused ovarian cancer in women who used them regularly for feminine hygiene over many years, and caused mesothelioma in some users due to asbestos contamination in the talc. Johnson & Johnson stopped selling talc-based Baby Powder in North America in 2020, replacing it with a cornstarch-based formula, while continuing to maintain its talc products were safe.

As of July 2026, more than 68,000 talcum powder lawsuits are pending in a federal multidistrict litigation (MDL 2738) in New Jersey. A proposed multibillion-dollar settlement using a bankruptcy-based structure was rejected by a judge in early 2025, and the litigation is now progressing toward bellwether trials under a newly appointed mediator.

Where things stand

No global settlement of the federal talc litigation had been finalized as of mid-2026, after a prior $8 billion settlement proposal — built around a "Texas Two-Step" bankruptcy filing by J&J subsidiary Red River Talc — was rejected by a bankruptcy judge in early 2025. The MDL is now moving forward with veteran mediator Fouad Kurdi working toward bellwether trial selection, with no mass settlement currently on the table.

Frequently asked questions

Is there still time to file a talcum powder claim?

Filing deadlines vary by state and generally run from when your diagnosis occurred, not from when you used the product. With tens of thousands of cases still active in the federal litigation and no global settlement finalized as of mid-2026, it's worth having your timeline reviewed rather than assuming you've missed a window.
