A joint status report filed in federal court in North Carolina on August 14, 2026 shows Camp Lejeune settlement offers have now topped $1 billion, with actual payouts surpassing $827 million, according to the Department of Justice's Camp Lejeune Justice Act tracking data.
The report, submitted by the Plaintiffs' Leadership Group and the United States, shows the DOJ approved $175 million in new Elective Option settlements over a recent three-week stretch alone — 649 approved offers in total under that faster, lower-dollar payment track. As of July 10, 2026, 3,756 Camp Lejeune Justice Act lawsuits had been filed in the Eastern District of North Carolina, with 166 dismissed, the large majority of those voluntary.
The court has set October 30, 2026 as the target date for reaching a global settlement framework covering the broader litigation — a firmer milestone than earlier in the year, when settlement masters reported progress on a framework without any dollar terms attached.
The pace of payouts still lags far behind the scale of the claims: the Navy has more than 408,500 de-duplicated administrative claims on file, but only about 11,250 currently have enough supporting documentation to be considered for the Elective Option program. One recent example from the filing: a Track 1 plaintiff with multiple forms of cancer accepted a $100,000 offer of judgment in the case Howard v. United States.
